Chapter 1
“So what’s up, man?” Miles was trying to be patient, but he wanted to move this along.
Something was bugging his teammate, that was for sure.
Blake had dropped in with only a quick call about a half an hour beforehand to see if Miles was at home.
That alone wasn’t like him.
So far, Blake hadn’t given Miles any idea of what was on his mind, although something clearly was. His friend usually kept his intensity for the game. Now it was practically radiating off him in waves.
Normally, it wouldn’t have mattered how long Blake was going to take to get to the reason he’d stopped by. Miles was always up for having a drink with his teammates. Except for tonight. He had work to do, and as much as he was dreading getting down to it, he was also impatient to get it over with.
Miles opened his beer and waited.
“There’s something I want to tell you.” Instead of continuing, Blake examined the beer Miles had given him like it somehow had all the answers. Miles took a couple of swallows himself, trying hard to fight off his growing impatience.
“Yeah?” Miles prompted.
Blake exhaled, clearly uncomfortable. In spite of himself, Miles was getting curious. Nothing ever seemed to bother Blake. Unlike whatever he was trying to say.
“I—you know I live with Lora.”
Miles frowned. “Of course. Everything okay with her?”
“Oh yeah, all good. It’s nothing like that. But there’s something I want to tell you that involves her too. She and I…well. You remember my friend Scott? He lives with us too now. We’re also…together. The three of us. Her and I and him. Um, I’m in a threesome.”
Miles paused, beer bottle midway to his mouth. “What?”
“I’m involved with two other people. Lora and Scott. We’re all together, all three of us.”
Miles stared at Blake, his eyes narrowing. Surely his friend was kidding, although he wasn’t acting like it. Blake downed about half the beer Miles had given him, looking more serious and keyed up than Miles had ever seen him.
Blake’s words had come out in such a rush, Miles wasn’t sure he’d heard him right. But Blake continued before he could ask him anything.
“That’s what I’ve been wanting to tell you. I mean, I’ve wanted to tell you before now, but I wanted you to know because I want to bring them along tomorrow night.”
Miles squeezed his eyes closed, stifling a sigh. Right. Tomorrow night. His ‘surprise’ birthday party. He’d put it out of his mind. Usually he liked to celebrate his birthday as much as possible. But now, he’d rather have forgotten about the whole thing. It was cool of his teammates to get something together for him. And trying to make it a surprise was going above and beyond. But as hard as Miles tried, he just couldn’t get in the mood for it.
“I know it’s different. Three of us. I’m not going to tell anyone other than you. At least, not yet. I wanted you to be the first to know.”
So Miles had heard Blake correctly. Still, it was hard to take in. His friend was in a threesome. A threesome relationship.
And with another guy?
Now that, he’d never expected. Not in a million years.
Miles frowned, not knowing at all what to say. “Right. Well. That’s great. Good for you.” Miles tried to put some enthusiasm behind his words. He had no idea if he was successful. “Scott? The guy I met before, right?”
“Yeah, you met him a couple times.” Blake was waiting for him to say something more.
Miles clenched his teeth. What was he supposed to say? “That’s different. All three of you?”
He regretted his words the moment they left his mouth. The last thing he wanted was for Blake to give him details of any kind.
“Yeah, I know. It’s not a big deal. I mean, I’m not gonna make a big deal out of it, but I wanted you to know. So, it doesn’t bother you?” Blake asked.
Miles frowned. “Why would it?” Of course it bothered him, but probably not for the reasons Blake would think.
“Well, you know.” Blake drank some more of his beer. “It’s not exactly a conventional relationship. And I don’t want to bring the wrong kind of attention to the team. I mean, I’m not gonna go public with it. Not now, anyway. When I do, I’ll ease into it. But I know things have a way of getting out no matter what, so I wanted you to know in advance. Since you’d be the one taking a lot of the heat for it, if it came down to it.”
“That’s a good point. It’s always best to be prepared in advance. Thanks for the heads up.”
Blake was right. As team captain, Miles would be the one to take the brunt of the attention that would blast in from the media over something like this. Since he was the only one to be able to talk to them, he’d be the one who had to field all the questions that would come up.
“I figured you’d see it like that. And you know,” Blake polished off the rest of his beer. “You’re a good friend. I wanted you to know because of that, too.”
Miles gave him a nod, drinking thoughtfully. No wonder Blake had been acting different lately. He’d been happier, content in a way Miles had never seen him before.
Blake set his bottle down. “I’ve got to get going. I’m meeting Lora and Scott for dinner soon. Hey, if you want to come and join us, that’s be good.”
“Thanks, man. But I’ve got some stuff I have to work on tonight.”
“Right. Cool. See you tomorrow night then.”
“I’ll be there.”
After he let Blake out, Miles flopped back down on his big sofa. He’d figured it would’ve been more likely that Blake had told Miles he’d won the lottery and was quitting the team before he’d revealed something like this.
He couldn’t think about it anymore. He had to get back to what he’d been trying to finish when Blake had dropped in on him. The deadline for finalizing the community outreach work the Stormers were going to be involved with this season was looming.
Miles wasn’t finished when he set his laptop down. It was enough for now, and he couldn’t stay focused. Standing and stretching, he fished his phone out of his pocket. He should have made some plans to go out tonight. The thought of joining Blake br
iefly flashed through his mind, but he shoved it away just as quickly.
Blake’s happy threesome was the last thing he needed to be around right now. He set his jaw. Sure, he was happy for his friend. But he couldn’t help but think about his own life. He wasn’t seeing anyone. Hadn’t been for a long time.
And what Blake had going on sounded interesting. Maybe even desirable.
Not that Miles wanted to be in a relationship of any kind. He didn’t do relationships. And Blake, of all people, telling him he was involved with another man. If he had to guess about any one of his team coming out, Blake would have been way down the list.
Long, long after himself.
Miles would never own up to it to anyone else, but he could admit to himself that he was actually kind of jealous.
Of what, he wasn’t exactly sure. It wasn’t that he wanted a relationship. He had everything he needed. The career of his dreams, doing the best job in the world. A killer apartment. Lots of friends. More than enough money, for the rest of his life. And sex whenever he wanted. With whoever he wanted.
He had a great life.
And yet, Miles wasn’t sure he was really cut out for the lifestyle he found himself living. No matter how he tried, he just didn’t love the one night stand thing he had going on, couldn’t embrace like nearly every other guy he knew.
Closing his laptop, Miles made a decision. He couldn’t focus on work right now. Didn’t want to get together with anyone he knew. He was too restless to stay in.
He needed something to help take the edge off. It took him only a few minutes to get ready after he’d called a cab.
“Oasis,” he told the driver as he climbed in. Spending the night somewhere else would do to get his mind off what Blake had told him. How the hell had Blake pulled off something that Miles couldn’t even imagine? And from what he could gather, Blake had just fallen into it.
Damn his luck.
Chapter 2
The bar wasn’t that busy when Miles arrived. It was a lot earlier than he would normally have gone, so it wasn’t surprising, but still. That meant fewer choices. At least he was able to find a seat up at the bar.
“Whiskey, rocks.” Miles didn’t recognize the bartender, or any of the other ones. Not that he came here that often, but it hadn’t been that long either.
Maybe it had. Maybe that’s why he was so on edge lately.
After the man set his drink down on the counter in front of him, Miles drank gratefully. And quickly. He had to get in a better mood before he could do this.
Only after his glass was empty did he venture a look at the growing crowd. What he saw only irritated him further. The entire place was mostly full of couples. Since when was everyone in the world so happily coupled up? And what the hell were they doing here, at Chicago’s finest meat market?
He needed another drink.
It was a different bartender that came to serve him this time.
“Whiskey soda.” But the guy didn’t make a move to start pouring. Miles glanced at him to see what the hold up was.
Damn it. He knew this guy.
And the bartender recognized him, too.“Hey there. Miles, right?”
This couldn’t be happening. “Right, yeah. Hey, Scott. How’s it going?”
Great. Blake’s boyfriend was working here, of all places. This was all Miles needed. Someone who knows him, here at the bar where he didn’t know anyone and no-one knew him. That was the way he liked it.
And so much for getting Blake and his lovely threesome off his mind. The idea that Blake was involved with a man who worked in a gay bar caught him by surprise.
“Stormers are on a winning streak lately,” Scott said as he started to mix up Miles’s drink. “Good for you.”
“Make that a double, would you? Yeah, we’ve been managing to hold our own. You come to a lot of games?”
“Yeah, I catch most of them, as often as I can. Every night that I’m not working.”
Of course he’d be out, cheering Blake on. Their games had been close calls lately, too close for comfort. At least the team had been able to pull it off with some near misses. Which gave Miles a lot more media attention, but it wasn’t for the right reasons.
“I’ve got to get back to it. Good to see you, man.” Scott went off to serve someone else.
Miles gave his head a shake. As much as he loved hockey, he didn’t want to think about it now either. He didn’t want to think about anything. All he wanted was to have a few drinks and a mind-numbing hookup. This night was turning into a bust and it was still early yet.
Scott was a good guy. At least he’d see him tomorrow night and he could be more friendly then. Make up for his abruptness tonight.
The bar was filling up around Miles, even in the short time he’d been there. Another glance around and he could see there were actually a couple of possibilities.
He had his eye on a guy who’d just walked in, right up until he went up to another man and greeted him affectionately, like they were together.
Scowling, Miles set his glass down the countertop. God, he wasn’t even in the mood for this. What he was in the mood for, he didn’t know. But it definitely wasn’t for being here for a moment longer.
He gestured at the nearest bartender, signalling that he wanted to settle up. As he was getting his wallet out, someone slid onto the recently-vacated barstool next to him.
“Leaving already?”
“Yup.” Miles swiped his credit card, handing the card reader back over when he was done.
“It’s so early. And we haven’t had a chance to talk yet.”
Turning to face him, Miles’ eyes widened. Now this was what he was talking about. The guy was hot. Dark hair, dark eyes. Tight shirt. Tight ass. Just exactly what Miles was looking for.
“I’m not really in the mood for talking.” Miles locked eyes with him.
“So, what are you in the mood for doing?”
Miles made a point of turning in his chair so that his leg rubbed firmly against the other guy’s. Just to be blatantly obvious, he gave the man’s thigh a squeeze. “Getting out of here as soon as possible.”
The man’s eyes glittered as the corners of his mouth turned up into a smile. “Works for me.”
Chapter 3
Not wanting to engage in any kind of conversation during the cab ride, Miles kept himself occupied toying with Reid’s growing cock through the fabric of his pants.
The moment they got to his place, Miles went for his clothes, nearly tearing the buttons off his shirt as he tugged them open. Sliding his hands along his firm chest, he stopped when he got to his nipples. He pinched and toyed with them while Reid’s hand went to Miles’ ass, pulling him down the hall.
Both men shed their clothes quickly as they made their way to the bedroom. When they got there, Miles took a moment to enjoy the sight of the hard body standing right in front of him, naked and ready. He gave his rigid cock a slow stroke.
The handsome, muscled man pushed Miles’s hand away, pulling him to the bed. The moment they were on it, Reid went right for Miles’ hard shaft, his mouth opening up. His sensual lips touched Miles’ cockhead, his tongue flicking out and it felt so good, Miles had to work to keep from thrusting forward and giving it to him all at once.
Running his tongue over the head, Reid slowly engulfed the length of Miles’s cock. Reid stroked his hands over Miles’s thighs, sliding one upwards. Reid kept sucking, not breaking his rhythm. The sensation was mind-blowing.
The man was too good at what he was doing. With a groan, Miles pushed him away after only a few short moments.
Miles shifted around, moving closer to the man’s very appealing and very hard cock. It was inches from his lips. He licked the entire length, dragging a guttural moan out of Reid. Sliding his mouth further down, Miles grabbed at his ass. At the same time, he sucked his cock deeper.
It didn’t take long before Reid tensed up.
Miles pulled off his cock. “I want to fuck you.”
&nb
sp; In response, Reid got out a condom and some lube. Miles’ cock pulsed eagerly as he got them both ready. He pressed forward just as Reid pushed himself back. The burning heat of pleasure that coursed over his body was so strong and hard, Miles sucked in his breath.
“Christ, you’re tight.” Miles kept moving forward, slowly going deeper. Reaching around, he wrapped his hand around Reid’s cock. It was still nice and hard, and he slid his fingers over the rigid shaft.
Reid grunted, not replying as Miles kept up his steady forward motion. When Miles paused to let him adjust, he moved back, silently encouraging him to keep going. And so he did, not stopping until he was completely surrounded.
Pleasure surged through him. Reid’s muscular thighs and calves flexed as Miles gripped him tight. Pulling back, Miles still went slowly. He wanted to make sure Reid was going to be good and ready because once he got going, he had no intention of holding back.
The way that Reid’s body responded to him was sending him into overdrive. Miles ramped up his speed, his cock pulsing insistently as he started thrusting powerfully, possessing not just Reid’s ass but all of him. Reluctantly he let go of Reid’s cock. As good as it felt to have a hard cock throbbing against his palm, he needed to work to stay in control.
And the way Reid was pounding back into him was not helping with that. His muscles were squeezing Miles hard, too, and Miles couldn’t help but start drive into him, hard and fast.
Drops of sweat dripped down from Miles, falling onto Reid’s back. They moved together easily, setting a rhythm between the two of them as if they were already somehow familiar with each other’s bodies and the way they both worked.
Miles bent down, pressing his chest against Reid’s back, holding him tightly as he thrust faster. When Reid’s hole clenched around his cock, Miles couldn’t hold back any longer. His entire body tensed as he groaned softly, shooting hard inside of Reid.
It took him a moment to recover from the forceful orgasm. He disengaged himself, tossing the condom away.
